The Card

In tarot, the Nine of Coins is one of the most quietly powerful cards in the deck. It depicts a woman standing alone in a lush garden, draped in rich robes, a falcon perched on her gloved hand. She is self-possessed, serene, and deeply at ease in the world she has created around her.

She didn't get there by accident. She built it — through patience, skill, and the courage to trust her own vision. She has come full circle. She has found security and freedom, not because someone gave them to her, but because she cultivated them herself.

When I first came across this card, something in me recognized it immediately. Not as a prediction of where I was going, but as a map of where I wanted to go.

The Journey

I have always made things with my hands. Candles, stained glass, handmade crafts — I ran a small shop for years, sold at street fairs, and my son Chris grew up right alongside me, helping set up tables before he could barely see over them.

Then one day Chris came to me with a video of a plasma cutter and said "Mom, we need one." I didn't even know what it was. But he knew me — he knew I'd be hooked.

He was right.

We learned the hard way, through experimentation and mistakes, figuring out the machine and the metal together. That journey eventually led me to Alvaro, a master craftsman who has become my partner in this work. What I design, he builds with a level of precision and skill that still amazes me. Together we became Nine of Coins Metal Art.

Why This Name

I chose the name Nine of Coins because it tells the truth about this studio.

This is not a hobby. It is not a side project. It is the result of decades of creative work, of learning and failing and trying again, of finally finding the medium — and the partner — that could bring everything I had imagined into something real and lasting.

The woman on the Nine of Coins card built her own world. She didn't wait for permission. She cultivated it with her own hands, and when she was done, she stood in it with quiet confidence.

That is what we are building here, one piece at a time.

What We Make

Every piece that leaves our Palm Springs studio carries that intention.
