About Us
The Story Behind Nine of Coins Metal Art
My name is Heidi Holmes, and I have been making things with my hands for as long as I can remember — candles, stained glass, handmade crafts. For years I ran a small shop and sold at street fairs, and my son Chris grew up right alongside me, helping set up tables and talking to customers before he could barely see over the display.
So when Chris came to me one day with a video of a plasma cutter and said "Mom, we need to buy one" — I didn't even know what it was. But he knew me better than I knew myself. He knew I'd be hooked.
He was right.
We learned the hard way, experimenting with techniques, making mistakes, and figuring things out together. That hands-on journey eventually led me to Alvaro, a master craftsman I met through Chris, who has become the heart of Nine of Coins Metal Art alongside me. Alvaro's extraordinary skill and precision have elevated my designs in ways I never could have achieved alone — he brings them to life with a level of craftsmanship that has to be seen to be believed.
Rooted in the Desert
I grew up in the desert, and its beauty and ruggedness are woven into everything I create. There is something about the Southwest — the vastness, the ancient symbolism, the raw landscape — that quietly shapes my eye and my work. Whether it's a copper sunset piece or a steel celestial design, the desert is always somewhere in it.
Why Nine of Coins?
In tarot, the Nine of Coins depicts a woman who has come full circle — someone who has built her own world and found security and freedom within it. That card is my story. It represents the journey of creating something meaningful on your own terms, and it felt like the only name this studio could ever have.
What We Make
Every piece that leaves our Palm Springs area studio is handcrafted with intention. We work with steel, copper, and brass — cutting, layering, finishing, and hand-patinating each design to bring out its depth and character. Our collections range from celestial wall art and tarot-inspired pieces to desert landscapes, planet symbol statues, and mixed metal ornaments.
No two pieces are exactly alike. That's the point.
Let's Create Something Together
