Inspired by the Death card of the Tarot, symbolizing transformation, release, and irreversible change.
La Morte draws inspiration from an antique Italian Tarot deck—an image that felt less like a reproduction and more like something uncovered, long forgotten and waiting to be rediscovered.
Cut from 18-gauge cold-rolled steel, the panel is plasma cut, hand-shaped, and taken through a multi-stage aging process designed to evoke the surface character of a centuries-old Tarot card. Layers of paint are built up and selectively worn back; rust is introduced, controlled, and reworked; the surface is then sealed and hand-buffed with wax to preserve depth, texture, and variation. No two pieces age in the same way.
Measuring approximately 22" × 44", La Morte is a substantial wall piece intended to function as a focal point—symbolic, grounded, and visually weighty.
Often misunderstood, the Death card does not signify an ending, but transformation. It marks the release of what has outlived its purpose, making space for renewal. In this work, decay and rebirth coexist, reminding us that every conclusion carries the seed of a beginning.
Each piece is individually finished and produced in limited quantities due to the time-intensive, layered aging process. Natural variations in patina and surface texture are inherent to the work and are considered essential to its character.
Indoor display is recommended.
